Our story

Chris and Lauren began the journey to starting Otter Creek Homes with a down deposit and a scrub bucket. Chris and Lauren purchased their first home, in 2014, a foreclosure in a small town in NH, while still in college. Three years later after endless designing, remodeling and scrubbing they sold their first little home for triple the purchase price.

Chris’ passion for building and Lauren’s love for transforming spaces sparked a partnership they couldn’t contain and a business model that just made sense. After a couple years of running their own businesses they realized it was time to join forces. It was clear that their skill sets aligned too much not to be working together.

After many late night pillow talks and countless dreaming, Otter Creek Homes was born.

Chris Atwood is co-owner & co-founder of Otter Creek Homes with his wife Lauren. Chris was born and raised in Rochester, NH. He graduated from Middlebury College with an economics degree and a burning passion to start his own business. As a third generation craftsman who spent many childhood days on the job site, Chris always knew where his heart lied. His head told him to pursue the finance industry but he was longing to get his hands dirty and build something he could be proud of.

His work is rooted in a relentless pursuit of perfection, coupled with an attention to detail and a healthy dose of hard work learned over the years from the generations that came before him.

why are we called Otter creek?

Well, Otter Creek happens to be the river that the town of Middlebury, Vermont sits on. This town holds a special place in our hearts. As you know it’s where Chris went to college and where countless memories were made for us as a couple. Four years of long distance dating solidified our love and commitment to one another. Looking back, those years gave us the foundation we needed to launch our journey that led us here today.
